“Let food be the medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates, father of medicine
Would you believe me if I told you I have my kids drink shots every night before bed? That would sound like the craziest confession yet, wouldn’t it? Well, I do, gut shots.
A few months ago, I had a great conversation with a Holistic Dietician. We were discussing probiotics and she told me they were like taking a bucket of water to a fire. Sure, the probiotics are good and would help but they are not enough to remedy your gut flora. A very solid probiotic has 20 billion CFU in it. A gut shot has 110 billion CFU’s per shot and it is suggested that you drink between 2-5 a day!
I can say without hesitation that I have seen improvement in my abdomen, sweet cravings, stool, gastrointestinal issues, and my kids’ complexions and behavior since we have started the gut shots.
It’s funny, I feel as though I have become somewhat of a gut shot evangelist and the most common thing I hear from friends is that they don’t like the flavor. I’ve never enjoyed arguing or debating so I typically just nod and smile. I do often think to myself, “Well, do you like having acid reflux, a big tummy, stool issues, a poor complexion or whatever ails them?”
Today the Minister closed our service by telling the Congregation about how he and his Wife have been working towards eating healthier. He shared his story of how slowly but surely his hunger, cravings, and taste buds have changed. He now craves the food he once dreaded eating. His final quote was, “You will hunger in the insides with what you most frequently feed yourself.”
I am happy to say, Andrew, Tony, and I all crave the very gut shots we didn’t like drinking a few months ago!
I hope you decide to take a shot!
